Tips for Keeping Your Mind Sharp

Working a lot and being busy managing your home life doesn’t leave much time for you. While it’s healthy to have responsibilities, it’s also good to rest and refresh. Your mind is one area that suffers when you’re constantly overdoing it.

It’s important to take care of yourself, so you’re sharp enough to think and process information well into old age. Not being able to recall specific details and struggling to make coherent responses because you’re overtired is a tough way to live. Turn it around now by taking action to improve your brain functioning. See tips for keeping your mind sharp.

Exercise & Eat Healthy

Improve your health by eating nutritious meals and exercising daily. Consuming junk food and laying on the couch isn’t going to get you any closer to your wellness goals. Your mind and body benefit from food that provides fuel and workouts that make you sweat. Exercising improves your brain’s memory and thinking skills. Your mood will improve and you’ll have more energy. Working out reduces stress, which slows your racing thoughts and opens up your mind to healthy functioning. There are so many benefits happening at once it’s hard to keep track.

Play Memory Games

Play memory games, get a mind games book or color when you have free time. You have to work your mind to keep it sharp and challenged. Your mind is similar to the machine you use each day to process information – your computer. We collect, preserve and analyze data in a very similar way, except we don’t have the luxury of being able to use forensic data imaging when something has gone wrong. We can only think and reflect. With more practice, our recall skills can be improved and can allow us to visualize details and facts and figures with greater ease and accuracy.

Sleep

It’s very important to get the recommended amount of sleep each night. You’ll feel great and have more energy than ever before. This is your brain’s time to rest and rejuvenate. You’ve been going, thinking and processing information all day. Your mind requires downtime to recover and be able to do it all over again tomorrow. Without a proper amount of sleep, you’ll be functioning like a zombie and it’ll be difficult to accomplish tasks that are normally easy for you. Sleep helps you manage stress and improve your memory.

Meditate

Meditation is a great tool for slowing down racing thoughts and getting your stress under control. Start by downloading an app on your phone or taking a classes where your session is guided by a teacher. You’ll learn how to get control of your brain and acknowledge your thoughts as passing clouds in the sky. You’ll be better able to control your emotions and you’ll be more comfortable sitting in silence. These new skills will help you communicate and function better in your daily life.
Conclusion

Awareness is key to recognizing when it’s time to step back and slow down. Even though you can’t see your mind, realize how important it is to take care of it. These are tips for keeping your mind sharp.

I have a GI Bleed that has affected my ability to keep my old walking schedule. The lack of oxygen due to low hemoglobin from the bleed makes forms of exercise most difficult. I have had this condition for 20+ years. It has become worse over the last five years.
I am very interested in establishing a meditation routine.

Thank you very much for sharing. That seems very difficult, I hope you have found a meditation routine that you enjoy.

Please let me know if there is anything I might be able to do to help.
