A study of nearly 4k people found that half of Finnish people reported sleep difficulties in the past month: 60% Men, 70% Women.

Understanding the results

Taking the results of both studies, the researchers were able to distinguish four factors or components associated with stress: physical workload and shift work, psychosocial workload, social and environmental nonwork adversity, and life event and/or health-related nonwork adversity.

Proper Sleep Improves Brain Function

Author Marianna Virtanen, Ph.D., professor of psychology, explains in a news release, “The more an employee had work and nonwork stressors, the more problems they also had with sleep.”

According to the researchers, not all types of stress have the sleep. For example, those who experienced work-related stress tended to have more ongoing problems with sleeping than those whose issues were non-work related. What’s more, where someone works also plays a role in how well they sleep—and unsurprisingly, poor working conditions means poorer quality sleep.
